Coach Katie Mitchell

Growing up I hated running. I did not grow up playing sports, and the first time I was introduced to running was 2005, when I attended to the police academy. I had been active in the gym and liked lifting but I could not run a single mile without stopping. I was in the slowest platoon and dreaded every day we had to run.

I eventually understood the importance of being fit for the job, but I also grew to love running not just to stay physically fit, but also mentally fit. Running gave me a boost in my confidence, gave an outlet to my competitive side, and awarded me with a very close knit group of running friends.

As most runners, I started signing up for local 5Ks, and 10ks, graduating to 10 milers and half marathons, and eventually I ran my first marathon in 2012. I was undertrained, did not know a single thing about fueling and I was miserable from the word go. After the marathon, I felt accomplished but did not want to do that ever again. The next several years I spent making a lot of mistakes: running fasted, overtraining, getting injured, not strength training, you name it.

I eventually discovered CrossFit, and strengthened my weightlifting background. I began researching sports nutrition and began applying it in my training. I completely changed how I approached running, eating, fueling for workouts and prioritized sleep, rest and eating carbs! I began seeing noticeable changes. I got faster. I lost weight although I was eating more and restricting less. I was able to increase monthly mileage to 150-200 miles without zero injuries. Running did not feel like “exercise” or a chore, I was fun all the time.

I became an RRCA Certified Run Coach, NASM certified personal trainer and certified sports nutrition coach. I PRed my 5K, 10K, 10Miler, half marathon and marathons in the past few years, and became an Ultramarathoner when I ran a 50K. My new goal for 2025 is to run an Ironman, which is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles on a bike, followed by a full marathon, totaling 140.6 miles.

I want to share what took me almost two decades to learn through failures and errors, hopefully saving a lot of heartaches for a lot or runners out there!

Katie is an amazing run coach! She took me from only running around a 5k to running a marine core marathon in 4 hours and 33 minutes! And it’s not just about the running, her encouragement and plan gave me the confidence to achieve more than I ever thought I could which translated into other areas of my life as well. I can not recommend her enough! When I plan the next crazy race for myself, I will definitely be hiring her again 🤩

Katie was amazing at putting together a 5k plan that both my teenager and I could use together. As both of us were starting at different levels, one a beginner and one looking to fall back in love with running, we needed a plan that would get us to our joint goal but would also be something we could do together. I found the plan really achievable, not too intimidating, and helped us gradually increase our run distance. Proud to say my daughter completed the plan and got to experience the runner’s high and I am now back to running regularly as both fitness and fun! Thanks Coach Katie!

I came to Coach Katie hardly able to run 2 minutes at a time. 5 months later I’m fueling to run 7 miles. Coach Katie is always prompt with questions and very patient with someone like me coming into the running community not knowing anything. If you need a confidence boost and someone to motivate you Foot Pursuit Running is where you need to be!

Katie is hands down the best running coach! I came to her wanting to improve my pace for the Army 10 miler and fuel properly before race day. She is through in her training plans and goes the extra mile at being available for every crazy question I ask her. She emails out race plans to help you prep the night before a race, goes over running shoes, how to hydrate, what to eat, all the things! I crushed my 5K pace in July following her plan. I took off 2 minutes per mile! She’s been my biggest champion through my running journey. Sign up with her, you won’t regret it!! 🏃‍♀️

I contacted Katie with only about a month left before my first half marathon ever. She did not only accept me, but did so immediately, while providing that human touch you cannot get from an app or cookie cutter training plan. She provided personalized advice on shoes, fueling my run, pace, heart rate, trackers and overall mileage. Her candid feedback after each run was timely and on point. It supported me in achieving a goal time, which I am very happy with. Definitely recommend!

Katie is awesome to work with and I highly recommend her, regardless of where you are in your running journey! I had been running for many years but constantly got injured, even with a solid cross training plan incorporated. I really wanted to fundamentally fix my running game so I reached out to Katie. She helped rewire my running brain and change my thinking about easy, tempo and hard runs. After years of trying to self correct my cadence, I finally did it with Katie’s coaching- it would not have happened without Katie helping me with different cues! I worked with Katie to also customize my training plan and still balance my priorities of bootcamp. If you’re trying to get to the next level, big or small, Katie will get you there!!!

I highly recommend Coach Katie with Foot Pursuit Running! Katie will create a plan to fit your personal goals, because she realizes we are not “one size fits all” when it comes to running. My goal was to improve my 5k time, but the limiting factors were I could only run two days a week. After two back surgeries, and recently a hernia my body demanded longer recoveries

I have an old Garmin watch that she walked me through, checked in with me after each run, and we discussed what I needed improvement on for the next run. I ran into some issues with the hernia and my foot leading right up to the run. Thankfully the day of the race the pain level had improved and I was able to run. Katie was running a marathon the next day within the same series as my 5k, so she made it a point to run next to me and pace me throughout the 5k. Katie also sped up at the finish like so she could get a video of me running across.

With the exception of a few runs, most of my runs were at a slow and steady pace. Although I was running a 5k, I got up to running 5 miles throughout the training program. Race day my goal was to get under 30 minutes which would be a post surgery PR. Thanks to Katie and her incredible coaching, and passion for running I came in at the finish at 29:30. I can’t say enough good things about having Katie as a running coach, I 100% recommend her and would give her 10 stars if I could. She truly wants her clients to succeed and reach their running goals! Thank you Katie!!
